10th Release Event
I placed 6th out of 40!

Out of 5 rounds, I had a record of 3-1-1, the loss being to the second place player and the tie being to the first place player. This is the first event of it's size that I've taken home goodies from (3 extra packs, which is still 3 extra packs I didn't have to buy).

My deck, should you be curious...Collapse )

I got some good rares to go with the above.

*glee*

Peace.

Off-topic: Visitation!
I posted this in my journal, but thought I would also post it here for anyone who doesn't read my journal and might be interested. Sorry that it's off-topic.

---------------

For all of you Pagan Atlanta oldtimers...

justben was going to tell everyone, but he's been pretty busy, so I thought that I would do it for him:

spunkybubbles (Helen) is coming in town to visit!

justben spoke to her the other day and she updated him a bit on things. Apparently she is living in Boston now, but I don't know too much more.

Anyway, she said that she wants to meet up at Summit's on Friday, January 13th. Like old times. I know many of us no longer go to PPN, but I still would like to make it out to see her and hope that some of you guys would too.

Pass on the word to anyone else you think might be interested!

What I ran Last night:

U/G TempoCollapse )

Went 1-2 + a buy. The problem: Even at it's fastest, it wasn't getting out threats fast enough.

Matchups:
Ghazi-Glare: Owned. I sided out the ledgewalkers for game 2. Glare of Subdual didn't come into play in game 1.

Reanimator: His deck had a fragile base in that he had creatures he couldn't cast w/o re-animation. But he did have lots of re-animation. I kept a really bad hand first game. I held okay on second game but got mana flooded.

B/W Aggro: I did alright. He wasn't playing threats faster than I could counter or stomp them.

And just for fun, I played against Snow White.

I now hate that deck with a passion.

So, tossing away the red/blue land destruction, I go for the following:

U/g Aggro-ControlCollapse )

There are 13 counters in this build. I also have Boomerangs. I'm hoping that's enough.

Now, I've thought about splashing white for Momentary blink and some form of removal. If I did that, I'd probably drop Boomerangs in in favor of the blink and the Psionic Blast in favor of direct creature removal. I'll need to try this build and see what it comes out like.

Peace.

The idea. Gigadrowse, Boomerang, Stone Rain, Temporal and Cyroclasm all stomp or render usless your opponents lands. The direct damage and Gelectrodes soften up your opponent and the Wee Dragonauts bring it home. Untested, but may make an appeance in a week.

The Deck that Did for me, and the one I hope will Do
So I got lucky last night and in a 5 man type2 tourney, I came out on top with a record of 6-0. And if that happens again in a month of sundays, I'll be impressed.

Here's what I did it with:

Fast Ledgewalking Green/BlueCollapse )

So now that I know how to tune this deck, what am I thinking about running next week?

Coldsnap Flavored G/W/BCollapse )

Thanks for listening to me brag. You may go back to your reguraly scheduled LJ.

Filed under: Things that require a lot of disposable income
What's Black, White, and Red all over?Collapse )

The idea is pretty simple: Get things in the air and pound the crap out of your opponent. The Psychotic Fury works well because 4 of the creatures in this deck are not multicolored (and could easily be replaced with Boros Recruits>. In test draws, it's hard to get Taste for Mayhem to it's maxium Hellbent potential, but otherwise, all the cards in the deck do their things.

Weaknesses? Well for one, the land involved is all rare and market value on it alone runs about $300. Secondly, even though the mana spread is pretty good, it's still slower than you would expect. Also, a half decent land destruction or counter/control deck would probably slow it down further.

On the plus side? Avatar of discord on turn three followed by making it double strike on turn four.

Peace.

Next Dissension flavored Concept: Black/Blue/White Unblockable things.

So athelred has greatly helped my magic habit. One of the things he has done was cover me in a draft. They have them every Friday here. So I did the thing. My record was kinda suck: 3 rounds, lost 2, 1 draw. 7 games, won 2. Part of it was my deck. Part of it, of course, was the play. For this reason, I am taking off a week from the game (i.e. I'm not playing in the monday or friday games). But on the plus side, I got some good cards.

First, let me tell you about the cards I -didn't- draft:Collapse )

But, what I did get:Collapse ).

I also have some card protectors now.

Peace.

Ravninjica: Evolution
The idea was simple: Dimir Infiltrator + Umezawa's Jitte = Lots of hurty goodness. So a deck started being built. Because of budget and a desire to experiment, it was built mostly of what good blue-black cards I had on hand. As a result it started to look like this:
Ravninjica v1.1Collapse )

It had aggro, mill and discard. It had evasion. It had the Jitte. It did pretty well. (Any deck that can hold off two of justben's decks, I feel pretty good about it.)

Then I got the idea that it might be something worth trying to tune into an honest to goodness, bad ass, type II tournament deck. So I bought some cards and did some reconstructing. But at the same time, I don't think I was considering what was coming out of it. So it ended up with more high end cards, but it became less focused, something like this:
Ravninjica v2.3Collapse )

So I decided to rebuild. This is still pre-Guildpact:
Ravninjica v3.0Collapse )

I found a group that plays type II monday night magic up here, $3 entry fee and the prize at the end is store credit. I took the penultimate version of Ravninjica to that game this past monday. I played 7 games , lost 4, won 3. Two of the lost games were kinda close. I got to see someone use Booby Trap + Lurking Informant to do horrid things to me. Same guy played Teferi's Puzzle Box + Underworld Dreams + Howling Mines. I found out why land destruction sucks. The last guy I played was 4-0, and I won one game against him and then had to leave so I could get up in the morning. I got a good compliment from him, which was that he didn't see why I hadn't won more with it. (If it's not the deck....)

In any case, I don't know if I'm going to do any Guildpact monkeying with Ravninjica, though it's tempting with Mimeofacture and some of the other replicate/haunt/just damn good cards.

Next projects: G/W/R weenie deck, G/B/W deck of some sort, and a good solid W/B bleed deck.

Peace.

Wurms, version 3.0, the Green One.
4 Siege Wurms (cost 7, with convoke)
4 Ornithopter (to help with convoke)
3 Elvish Skysweeper (to put dredge cards into the graveyard)
2 Root-Kin Ally (cost 6, with convoke)
2 Tangle Golem (cost 7, with affinity for forests)
2 Greater Mossdog (Dredge 3)
2 Golgari Brownscale (dredge 2)
1 Sakura Tribe Scout (to get rid of extra lands)
20 Critters

4 Rites of Spring (to put enchantments into the graveyard)
4 Fists of Ironwood (For extra convoke minions)
4 Dragon Fangs (trample, +1/+1)
4 Dragon Wings (Flying)
4 Dragon Scales (+1/+2, Vigilance)
2 Dragon Breath (Haste, Firebreathing)
22 Spells

18 Forest

Okay, take three on this deck. I'll probably make a white/green and white/black version of this deck too...

The downsides over the white/green/black version I was playing? No way to cast anything other than green spells, no Auratouched mages and no Vigor Mortis. Advantages, fixes the mana issues a bit, I think.
